Happy 26th Birthday Karl!

What a fun day full of delicious food and friends.
We took the day off of work and just lazily slept in. It was so great to do. Then we biked over to Guru’s for breakfast:

Yum, omelets with some blueberry pancakes to share.
When we were done with breakfast it was still pretty early so we headed over to the mall for some new birthday clothes and a movie. We wanted a fun experience for the movie. You know, something that would be memorable. So we saw Eclipse. We had been waiting, and this was it. The theater was mostly empty and we were laughing our heads off the entire show. Oh, just, so…hilarious. Once the movie got out, it was about lunch time.
We had chosen a month ahead of time what we would do: Sushi. We went to this sushi bar called Sushi Ya. Unlimited sushi rolls. You just sit down at the bar, request a roll, and they make it for you. I mean it was really great quality too, check this baby out:

We were all smiles. Yum,

Check out the carnage after we were finished:

Oh so good.
After all that eating we were ready for the main event: Le tour de French Fries. Let me explain: We spent much of the month of July following the Tour de France. So we had it on the brain. We knew that we wanted to do some sort of bike ride for Karl’s birthday, too. About a week before his birthday Karl came up with the idea. It came in a text message. He said: “I know what I want to do for my birthday, Le Tour de French Fries.” I was in. So we mapped all our favorite places, sent out invites in McDonald’s fry boxes and we were green to go. Karl was seriously stoked. I bought him some balloons for his bike.

Our friends began to arrive for the event.

Geoff and Jessie, Irene and Jens and Irene’s little sister.

Claire and Scott Barton

Karl’s best friend Karen, of course. Zac and Krysta came, too. Late comers Dev and Sam also showed!

We were off. We had riders of all different levels. So we took it slowly. It was actually a pretty long ride.

Everyone did pretty well. But seriously, everyone looks cool on a bike.

Our tour was as follows:
1. KFC: Potato Wedges
Photobucket
Everyone liked these. I bought them in…a huge box. Who knew that was an option?
2. Burger King: Regular Fries.
Photobucket
These are generally Karl’s favorite fries. He was happy to have them. He was also happy to pick up a birthday crown here.
3. McDonld’s: Sodium Cakes.
These are supposed to be America’s favorite fries.
I think our German friend liked them.
Photobucket
They were pretty good. They don’t count as food, but McDonald’s hasn’t serves billions because their product tastes bad.
Photobucket
Claire and Scott really liked them too.

I love this picture of Karl. He looks like a big child. My boy.
We headed back up to on Freedom Boulevard to Bulldog where there are tons more fries to try.
4. Arby’s Curly Fries.

We were all getting kind of tired at this point.

Geoff and Jessie.
We were losing light and people, so we took a group shot here.

This picture is great for a couple of reasons. One: it is so Provo. You can see the mountain and the Y in the background. Two: I love all of these people. I was and am so grateful they all joined us on this ride. We lost Dev and Sam, then Claire and Scott at this point. We still had three stops though. Even though it was getting dark, we rode on.
5. Carl’s Jr: CrissCut Fries.
Photobucket
This was surprisingly the first place that offered fry sauce. Yum.
6. Del Taco: Crinkle Cut Nacho Cheese Fries.
Photobucket
These are my favorite fries. I ate this type of fries far too often in high school. They were fresh and hot and delicious. I loved it.
FINAL STOP!
7. Sammy’s: Sweet Potato Fries.
They were good. Not my favorite, but they were several other people’s favorites. For me, the main reason we were there was pie shakes. They make these great shakes from pieces of pie. We ordered and pulled out the brownies, candles and the presents Krysta carried on her bike the whole ride.
Photobucket
We sang to Karl, and opened gifts. Everyone was super generous and the shakes were great.
Photobucket
Karl was happy with the night.
I love you Karl!
Thank you to everyone that made his day so fun. Thanks for everyone that came. Thanks for all of your awesome presents! Thank you all so much!
