Guy Fawks Day

Or Bonfire Night.
This is Guy Fawkes, or Guido Fawkes.

From Wikipedia:
(13 April 1570 – 31 January 1606), the name he adopted while fighting for the Spanish in the Low Countries, belonged to a group of Roman Catholic restorationists from England who planned the Gunpowder Plot of 1605. Their aim was to displace Protestant rule by blowing up the Houses of Parliamentwhile King James I and the entire Protestant, and even most of the Catholic, aristocracy and nobility were inside. The conspirators saw this as a necessary reaction to the systematic discrimination againstEnglish Catholics.
The Movie V for Vendetta the main character wore a Guy Fawkes mask.

Remember, remember the 5th of November, the gun powder treason and plot. I know of no reason why the gun powder treason should ever be forgot.

This is a British tradition:- children will make guys to burn on the November the 5th bonfire and display them on the street with a “penny for the guy notice” so as to collect money to buy more fireworks.
More from the Internet:
The Gunpowder Plot was led by Robert Catesby, but Fawkes was put in charge of its execution. He was arrested a few hours before the planned explosion, during a search of the cellars underneath Parliament in the early hours of 5 November prompted by the receipt of an anonymous warning letter.Guy Fawkes Night (or “bonfire night”), held on 5 November in theUnited Kingdom and some parts of the Commonwealth, is a commemoration of the plot, during which an effigy of Fawkes is burned, often accompanied by a fireworks display. The word “guy”, meaning “man” or “person”, is derived from his name.
They eat candied apples, light off fireworks, and have a great time. Sounds like an awesome time to me!
For dinner we had fish and chips, because we didn’t know how to make any other type of British food.
Candy apples are traditional. So easily we made some.

Our Celebration included Leah and Brandon. Leah’s mom is British, but she never observed this holiday. Careful Leah.

Of course, Ms. Krysta was there.

And Zac.

After we had our candy apples we headed out to the street to light off some fireworks.

Oh, did I mention Karen was there too.

So we took my cancer pumpkin and filled it with fireworks.

These little poping bombs, that were about the size of smoke bombs.
Check out the video.
Once all of our fireworks were spent, we headed up to the roof of the complex.

Krysta lead us up.

Karl was really excited.

You can’t tell but we are standing atop our apartment.

We did it.
The video is totally dark. The audio is pretty funny though.
We all climbed down. Not much was left of them.

Zac was very civic minded, and cleaned up the mess while we all congratulated ourselves on a job well done.

I can’t wait until next year….
