We went to our Libary’s annual summer reading kick off. Years prior it has been the teddy bear picnic. This year they adjusted the program to fit the whole family.
The Library’s reading goal is 800, 000 minutes. That is how many mile it is to the get to the moon and the come back.
You can also earn badges by attending events and activities at the Library. You earn badges for prizes!
You even get a badge for going to the kick off!
The program started with a welcome and an activity.
The kids learned about lift, and aerodynamics with this little craft.
The day was warm, but there was lots of shade, and Lucas was having a blast running around.
Mirah had fun running up the stairs and dropping her heliotrope from up high.
After that we went inside to check out the cook balloon art of a lander and an astronaut.
The have a moon and a rocket set up to show the progress we as a group were making. You go online and submit minutes as much as you like.
The rocket was strung across the library. They actually printed it on a 3 D printer at the maker’s space in the library.
They just opened the new kids are in the library so we took some time to check it out.
We got started on earning some badges by reading some space themed books.
We earned another badge by having Mirah imagine and draw what she thought an alien on another planet might look like.
We love our library. We went again the very next day to story time.
Our story teller sang songs, read stories, and played games with the kids all on the theme of ice cream. We’re off to a fun filled summer! Full of music, and movies, and reading, and crafts. We can’t wait! | |
