We slowly woke up that morning. Karl had ordered a game at Best Buy on a deal, and was having it delivered to the Grand Junction DI so that he could get it to play with everyone that week.
We grabbed the game, grabbed breakfast, and then went to Walmart. We were just messing around grabbing stuff for the week.
Back on the road again, we headed towards Frisco. And Mount Garfield.
When we got to Colorado, Karl described the weird naming convention in Colorado. F road, 33 3/4 road.
He also told me about their famous summer foods.
Olathe Corn and Palisade Peaches.
We left the highway and headed out to search for some. We found it at Mt. Garfield Fruit and Vegetables.
We all headed in.
Making sure the kids didn’t play with the beans.
We got peaches and cherries in little baskets. Karl got bunches of corn to share for dinner with everyone.
Yum yum yum.
Palisade Peaches.
And candy for the kids, since they didn’t play with the beans.
We had a pair of Grandpa Barainca’s old binoculars in the car. Mirah used them to look more closely at the mountains all around.
I finally got to see the Grand Mesa Karl had been telling me all about.
And the Kum and Go- BARF. And then of course we drove through Rifle, where there were Rifles on all of the street signs.
I’ve heard Karl say, “you’re wanted in Rifle” so many times over the years. It was an add campaign meant to get people to visit Rifle, a little tourist stop near Grand Junction.
We were lured in by the gun street signs, But then we saw signs to Rifle Falls, so we decided to take another detour.
