Now that I am active in Mirah’s school’s PTA I am aware of more of the things that are going on there. LIKE the reflections competition. From their website:
“For 50 years, National PTA’s Reflections program has helped students explore their own thoughts, feelings and ideas, develop artistic literacy, increase confidence and find a love for learning that will help them become more successful in school and in life.
Each year, hundreds of thousands of students in Pre-K through Grade 12 create and submit original works of art in one or all of the available arts categories.

2018-2019 Program Theme
The 2018-2019 theme Heroes Around Me will spark imagination and creativity in school and at home.
We’ve been trying to get work on something all summer.
Finally this weekend we did!
We started by reading up on who she might want to write about, then she started looking at pictures she wanted to draw.
We talked about the theme. We talked about people we knew who were heroes. Then we talked about other heroes she had never known. I told her about a few of my heroines. This inspired her to write about them.
Ruth Bader Ginsberg, Malala, and Sally Ride.
Here are her original compositions:
We sat together and talked about a story she wanted to write. We researched all three women. We watched videos, read articles and found and read books. We found the lined paper and she wrote the story. First thing the next morning I took it to the copy center and had it laminated. Then had it bound.
Somehow I am missing a page.

We filled out the paperwork, and turned it in!
PS: During a playdate this week Mirah and her friend Cooper made this book.
