It was a slow start to Thanksfigivng, and by slow I mean we all woke up early, but we didn’t get moving for hours. The kids were up at 6:30 AM and Karl and I turned on a youtube feed of the parade.
BUT it was super weird, no live commentary, and just a million ads for version and Peacock. So we headed down stairs to watch live on NBC.
This year, due to covid, they only blocked off the area around the block of Macy’s and they did a TON of these things call “virtual balloons.”
I mean, I wish that one of the Rock from the 90’s was real.
Eventually we had Thanksgiving Cereal. The kids weren’t allowed to eat it down stairs so Mirah improvised.
Just like every year there were performances from people I had never heard of.
BUT unlike any other year we had a little puppy who wanted to play while we watched.
She was great until she wasn’t
The parade seemed to drag on for hours, and around noon Karl and I left the kids and started on dinner. Mirah requested cheddar peas and onions, and we couldn’t find any frozen so we had to hand peel fresh little onions.
We had decided before hand that Mirah would be able to make the cranberry sauce this year. Here she goes.
Not to be left out, Lucas was a big helper too. He peeled a who potato all on his own. He was very careful and precise with each little cut.
Once a lot of the prep was done, we set out all the cheese balls, crackers, veggies and dip for the pre dinner snacking.
The table was set.
The food was set out.
And we all took our seats.
Mirah was the first one to have some cranberry sauce, and she LOVED it.
My before and after plate.
Lucas got a big turkey leg. He reminded me of Brandon here.
The dinner was quiet and lovely and we had a really nice time.
Still, I missed the chance to gather.
This post by an artist I love, really sums up my feeling of the day:
After dinner and clean up, Karl and I took a nap. The kids said that they had a surprise for us at 5:30. The came in at the appointed time and told us we had to get dressed in blue and white NICE clothing. When we got down stairs they said, “Surprise! We’re having a ball!”
They were all dressed to impress, and we danced. We turned music on the Google home and we all took turns dancing together. I danced with Karl, then Lucas, then Mirah. Mirah Danced with Lucas, then Karl, then me. It was SO cute and such a funny surprise. I thing we have a new Thanksgiving day tradition on our hands.
It was Lucas’s idea. Mirah said she wanted to give us a special surprise on Thanksgiving, and Lucas said, “we could do a ball!” The colors were Mirah’s idea. It was so freaking cute.
These two perfect cuties.
After we were done dancing we had pie.
We talked to lots of family after the celebrations of the day. And even got a picture of baby Simon.
Feeling thankful for my kids, and husband, and family this year.
