What a funny week. This picture perfectly describes my week.
I have decided to put this all in one post, because somehow it seems only fair to see and remember the whole picture of the week. Looked at one event at a time you might think that the week went pretty good, but looked at all together, and especially the things that were not photographed .
It was on the sidewalk of Mirah’s school-it had just been rained on.
My week had LOTS of highs. Fun, cool things that we did-but so many hard things happened, it all feels smuged and ruined somehow.
Like on Monday, Cameron and Kelly renewed their vows at a Drive Thru wedding chapel in Las Vegas.. Cam sent us a link to watch online:
The video never worked.
BUT they sent us some great pictures of the day. They are so cute.
What a cute family.
Monday-Wednesday the weather here was so lovely. SO sunny and warm. We walked to pick up Mirah up from school, all three days.
This happened one day:
Then someone I am close to told me she thought she was having a miscarriage. I was happy to support her, but it brings up a lot of hard feelings. We talked a lot, that day.
Then Lucas and I went to Farm Country on Wednesday.
A highlight of my week. It’s so fun to be with this boy.
Riding a pony.
We went to Tales for Tots. He was all over the place.
This kid is so cute.
After having a fun morning, another person I am close to was having so really hard health problems, and was really panicking. I unsuccessfully tried to talk them off the ledge. I was able to get them a doctors appointment. But they were still very upset, and honestly not very nice to be because of all of the worry they were suffering.
That night we had a tough family conversation about another set of people we are close to who are getting a divorce. As we were finishing reassuring our kids, I checked my email and Mirah’s teacher sent a long email about her classroom behavior. We scheduled to meet together, and I was really stressed about it.
Thursday Lucas had crazy hair day. It was a struggle. He was excited the day before, then the morning of, he refused to cooperate. He said, “I want my own hair.” The hair we ended up with was a compromise. We called it “Jack Jack hair”
Krystin sent this. Lucas looks a lot like her.
The kids had a dentist appointment that I had rescheduled 3 times already. I had to check Mirah out of school early to make it. It went fine.
Then I had to meet our babysitter leave Lucas with her at home, then run over to the school for the parent teacher conference with Mirah. It was a disaster. I left realizing that Mirah’s teacher just doesn’t like her, and no matter what she does, he will not like her. He went so far as to insult her clothing, hair, and personality. He wondered if she even had any friends. He accused her of attention seeking behaviors and just being “weird.” It went from what I thought was going to be a simple meet to problem solve through a behavior, to both me and her other teacher crying because he was being so hateful. I was so outraged and angry I couldn’t speak. Afterwards all I could think about, besides how much I loathed her teacher, was what I should have said, how I should have stood up for her. THANKFULLY, Mirah was out of the room for all of this, AND there was another teacher present to have seen how awful it was.
Karl texted me, “How did it go?” All I could put together was “really bad” Before Karl got home her teacher had already emailed me:
Hi Allison,
My working theory is that I left that meeting, and the other teacher said, “You need to apologize and make this right ASAP or you are going to get in trouble.” I haven’t been able to respond to him. I just-well anyone can guess how I am feeling. I am just disappointed in myself.
Friday dawned grey, rainy and cold. I spent the day running back to back errands. The person who I am close to who was worried about having a miscarriage did in fact suffer a miscarriage on this day. It was devastating for everyone who knew. She was 10 weeks along, and it was just awful. I found out while we were at IKEA. We stayed on the phone while I drove back home, continuing my errands.
We spent hundreds of dollars replacing breaks and rotors on our van. Bright side, my friend Devanie had Lucas playing with her son so he didn’t have to shlup around with me at the mechanics.
That night we went out with a couple of couples to Good Move Cafe.
Zac, Krysta, Sam, Devanie, Karl and I had a pretty fun night.
Even though Zac had been up for 24 hours and didn’t play with us, or stay awake for the game. Poor guy.
We played Camel Cup, it was really fun.
Saturday, Mirah let me try giving her a crown braid.
I love this child.
AND we were able to meet up with Besty and her kids and spend the day together.
The sun wasn’t out, but the day was warm enough.
Then today, Sunday. Church was good. We forgot the kids church bags. So it was very hands on. Luckily the YW spoke, two of them were our babysitters. Primary was good, and totally worked out. BUT I ended up teaching music time, after only finding out that I was going to do it during the closing song in sacrament meeting.
Brightside. Karl made an amazing Indian dinner. Fresh naan, kachumber…it was perfect.
Fingers crossed, this week will be better.
Oh my goodness, her teacher! What a horrible person! I’m pretty sure that it doesn’t take almost an entire year to build a relationship with a student. I am in shock at how poorly he handled the conference. So, wrong! I know your whole week was crazy and chaotic. What a tool of a teacher!
