We sat down to plan our week, and in the course of our conversation it came out that Karl has 25 days of PTO REMAINING this year. Where things look SO different than they did when we first planned for the year we sat down and re shuffled the days. SO, Karl will be taking a day off a week, until the end of the year. YEP, thats how many days he has left, and still enough to get big chunks in November and December fir the holidays.
His first such day came today, he took a Thursday off, since his Friday was already totally booked with meetings.
We had talked about renting a boat to paddle down the Provo river together. BUT for just a little bit more, we found out you could rent a speed boat on Utah Lake. We chose speed boat.
So as soon as the kids were out of school, we headed down to Utah Lake to get in the water! We got the boat, but on our life jackets, and set off for a two hour joy ride around Utah Lake.
Mirah and Karl were stoked to get out on the water.
Lucas was very worried. He had even avoided getting in the car after school. He told Mirah, “I don’t want to get in the car because I don’t want to go on the boat.” He and I sat together as we slowly left the no wake zone.
Lucas, still not sure.
As we got going, Lucas loosened up.
Far out into the water now, and the whole place was quiet, calm, and a little lonely.
We were still happy to be having an adventure.
Karl made me take a turn driving. The he had the kids take a turn.
All signs of worry gone, Lucas was having a ball. So were we all!
Pictures of my cuties.
There was a haze on the water that day, that made visibility a little challenging when the sun was hitting it just right.
You would never know that there was any concern if you asked the kids.
Lucas having his “King of the World” moment on the front off the boat.
Once we all had a turn, Karl was really in his element. He was LOVING every moment of it.
We were going over some bumpy waves, and Mirah bit her lip…and got blood on her teeth, thankfully she just thought it was hilarious.
We had brought a little cooler onto the boat with us, and I was enjoying a now FLAT Fresca.
Look a bird.
Lucas discovered the horn.
As we were deciding what to do next a sudden loud beeping noise put an end to the whole day.
The check engine light had come on.
After calling the rental company, we were told to come slowly into dock.
The ride in was nice.
Mirah felt sad and worried about our trip back in. She wanted to keep boating.
Back into the Marina:
A disappointing end to a fun day.
On the bright side, we get to go out again next week…FOR FREE!
