For Karl’s birthday week I had to really dig deep inside my tired burnt out celebration self to make the week unique to my beloved birthday boy. Birthday week started on Monday the 27th, where I took care of dinner and the kids that night so he could leave work early, and go all by himself to buy his very own Kayak. It’s bright orange. It seats one, and it’s just for him and none of us. This was all made very clear to all of us, when we all tried to jump on. He turned to me and asked, “what is YOUR dream about this kayak? What do YOU want to do with it?” It was his way of saying, “this is my thing, my dream, not to be shared with the family at this point.”
So off to the Kayak store (The Lifetime store) he went on his own, and that night without a life jacket he headed out to Highland Glen Park in Highland to take it on a spin:
He had a ball. He really liked it out there. Not too many people, quiet, and a good way to move and exercise outside.
Tuesday we swam in the pool after work and had Taco Bell for dinner. I do not prefer Taco Bell, so we rarely go there. It was Taco Tuesday, so birthday wish accomplished.
Wednesday I called the RC Adventure day. We took all of the different RC crafts we had and went out to Pleasant Grove’s Manilla Pond to drive them all around.
We started with my RC boat.
Everyone got a turn.
While waiting for his turn, Lucas drove around his little RC car Maryn got him for his birthday.
There were lots of people out that day, and staying socially distant was tricky.
We did our best. Taking turns with the boat was just as tricky.
After we ran through all of the batteries on the car and the boat we moved to an empty part of the park to fly Karl’s quad copter.
Karl kept flying as high as he could, then would come swooping down.
Lucas pulled out his ball and ran about too.
Dinner was Jimmy John’s for a picnic at the park. Again, one of Karl’s favorites, that we never seem to get.
Another day down for birthday week.
