New Years Eve 2020/2021: Dumplings, Korean BBQ, Games, Staying up Late

Just like most things during COVID, its all about the food. Today was a day of delicious Asian food!! We spent the late morning making home made dumplings.

We made two kinds: pork&ginger and shrimp and cilantro

Oh Karl.

Karl made the best dumplings.

We cooked those up and ate them for lunch.

We were going to have them with dinner, but decided to just to Korean BBQ alone, instead. WHICH I think was a pretty good idea.

We bought all of the meats pre seasoned and marinated at the Asian Market. (Spoiler Alert, they were all amazing!)

We marinated the extra shrimp we had in Teryaki I think. They we had Beef Bulgogi, Spicy Pork Bulgogi, and a third type of beef rib…Oh I can’t remember what it was, but it was really good.

I got Karl this counter top gas burner and this Korean grill stone for Christmas. It took us an hour to prep everything for dinner.

We preheated the stone, and then we were off!

Let the table top Korean BBQ grilling begin!

The kids were a little hesitant at first to get grilling.

But they quickly became old pros.

Cutie.

IMG_4639.HEIC

The kids said they loved it, and they ate most everything, except the spicy pork.

IMG_4644.HEIC

It was REALLY spicy. But also very good. Karl got the hiccups.

IMG_4651.HEIC

It was just a fun and delicious night. Super fun activity. Good for four people. We would need another grill if there any more.

The worst part: Cleaning the grill. We soaked that thing for THREE Days, scrubbing and rewashing and then soaking again. It will never be clean.

It took a while to get dinner all cleaned up. Then we went down and played video games together. The kids were determined to say up until midnight, and we were…willing to let them. We had dinner at 5:00, so by 9:30 after hours of video games (and maybe a little nap for mom) the kids were hungry again. Here came what the kids thought was the funnest part of the night and now say that they think should be our new New Years Tradition: Late Night Noodles.

Shaggy old Luna, so tired and so confused.

IMG_4655.HEIC

We all had different things. Mirah had Beef Pho, Lucas had Chicken Pho, and Karl I think had Beef Pho too.

IMG_4657.HEIC

Lucas was getting tired…you can see it in his zombie eyes.

IMG_4658.HEIC IMG_4659.HEIC

We played a new game Karl got for Christmas called Crew.

IMG_4662.HEIC

The kids liked it. We played five rounds…but Lucas was starting to loose it a little.

IMG_4660.HEIC

Even Mirah, who was doing really well in the game, was staring to loose steam.

IMG_4661.HEIC

By 10:45, the kids wanted to go to bed, so we packed up the game, pulled out the cider, and turned on one of the Netflix kid countdowns.

We cheered!

Took a picture.

Can we goes to sleep now?

IMG_4677.HEIC

And went to bed.
