Psycho Killer Qu’est-ce que c’est?

Now, why would I Allison Hite be pointing a shotgun (all be it a toy shotgun with an orange tip) at the love of my life Karl? Well it is simple, he is a Zombie.

A quick note for anyone who doesn’t know: I am completely terrified by Zombies. I am getting over it though, I think. You see I am working on it. I have spent lots of time thinking though scenarios where Zombies would be able to exist, each more plausible than the one before. In an effort to “get over it” we (Me, Karl, and of course my ever gorgeous BF Forever Krysta) signed up for The Night of the Running Dead. We found out about the race way back in April, and we have been waiting with anticipation ever since then.

The morning of the race we went over to pick up Krysta and Karen. Karen is so cute, but she seemed to be really upset about something…

She explains her feelings:

A nice up close up for clarifying sake.

I couldn’t blame her, I couldn’t look at him either. Seriuosly my worst fears materialized right in front of my eyes.

Still, she got over her dislike of his blood and they were friends again by the time we got to the event. It was held at This Is the Place Monument park in SLC.

I dressed up too, as a Zombie Killer! Karen had no problem with me.

Yes, we were able to make up too, sort of.

I think Karl really enjoyed getting all dressed up. He got really excited about details. He even rolled his knuckles in brown shoe polish, that didn’t come off for a day or two.

Pre-race Shots!

We arrived early to have a good time. There were dressed up enthusiasts everywhere. This pumpkin man on stilts was everywhere that day. He was a fun guy.

Krysta and I took one too!

Karen was ready if any of those Zombies got fresh!

There was a parade of Crazy looking people.

These ladies gave a sweet pre-show skanky zombie dance.

Really, the event was totally disorganized. These ladies danced in front of the main group of racers, where most of the racers couldn’t even see them. They danced for ten minutes, and while we all stood there, board. When the run finally started it was the worst 5k we have ever run. The majority of the run was up hill, 5-8% grade 80% of the run. The park was huge! Poor Krysta was pushing Karen, and it was a rough trail.
The way the run worked was 3:00, the survivors were out of the gate, 3:01, out came the zombies or “the infected.” There was also a 1 mile walk/creep n’ crawl that Karl signed up for.
So there we were. One minutes ahead, and at the back of the survivors pack. Struggling up the hill. We had run as far as we could we heard a loud yell/wailing of the group of zombies about to run. Then gun sounded, another round of yells, and I could see them. I began to run and my already elevated heart rate began to beat harder, but my best had been spent, they were going to get me. The group arrived what seemed immediately, and were able to overtake us. Sad, but it was a good experience for me.
I learned that I still need to loose like, 50 pounds and become a much better runner. Second I learned that I am DEAD if there is an Apocalypse. That knowledge somehow makes me less scared. Lastly, if there is an apocalypse, I hope I am exploded, and everyone I love is too, so that we can just go to the afterlife instead of living in hell. Maybe that is why I am not scared, because death is the better option.

We hung out for what seemed like hours waiting for the race results, and waiting for the raffle, which we didn’t win a thing from, to finish.
KAREN.

So the race was FINALLY over, and we headed out of the park.
Karen and Krysta, sitting on a little train that was parked next to us.
