FOUR

The Day:
Photobucket
That’s right, for those of you Karl and Allie fans it is that time of year again…the time we remember that we are actually for reals married.
No, no, no, not that’s Karl and Ellie.
Photobucket
I have to admit that there are some very strong similarities. She has red hair, he has big eyebrows. He wears ties and likes balloons, she is way awesome…
This Karl and Allie:
Photobucket
Us on our first anniversary. It was a simpler time, we were limited on funds and time. We bought a couple of steaks, some frozen scallops, and of course mashed potatoes. (Oh how I miss thee!) We bought the Wii that year. It was a REALLY big buy for us.
Photobucket
Oh that first little apartment, and our pathetic little card table.
This was our second. We had just moved to Provo months earlier, and we decided to take the plunge, we bought a big TV. We also got a Costco membership, if you were wondering.
Photobucket
We had dinner a Carino’s. Just to remember the good old days when we first got together. Karl was a server there and I was a nanny. We would meet up there all the time.
Then there was our third. It was our first destination anniversary. We stayed at this awesome place in Park City. Karl planned the trip all by himself. It was really fun. The next day we went up to Morgan and went inner tubing.
Photobucket
Then of course there was the snake, and the pedicure.
Photobucket
Sexy.
This year beats every other year before for one simple reason: QUANTITY. We were able to work in so many awesome things, and we had a blast!
Last year we stayed at the Silver King, right next to the big resort in Park City. Back then we said, half joking, that if we were still here next year we should come back again. Yeah, control the laughter please. So anyway, it seemed the natural thing to come back.
Photobucket
(See last years anniversary post for a more thorough look at the room.)
We checked into our hotel and decided at that point we were off the diet for a couple of days. For celebratory purposes. You know, to boost moral.
Photobucket
CHINESE. That was what we needed. Some really delicious Chinese.
This place was highly rated, so we went.
Photobucket
It was nice to relax and have fun together, rather than worrying about the carb/fiber ratio of our food.
Photobucket
Photobucket
We ordered this delicious wonton soup, and some pot stickers to start. We had shrimp and chicken for dinner, with white rice. I know, right? Crazy.
Photobucket
Oh so good. I highly recommend them.
Photobucket
After dinner we went to the hotel pool and went swimming. Karl and I always forget how much we love to swim.
The next morning we went for another swim before checking out then headed over to the Alpine adventure park. I bought the tickets while Karl checked his height. Yep, still really tall.
Photobucket
The day was perfect. Cool and a little overcast but not windy.
Photobucket
We started on the Aline Slides. The sky lift was going so slow! I had time to take this shot.
Photobucket
Then this one:
Photobucket
This is Karl’s favorite picture from the whole trip.
Face shot!
Photobucket
The ride up is really beautiful. Seriously, if you have never done it you have got to try it out. There are scenic rides you can take too, if you are too chicken for the slides…
Photobucket
Here we got a cool shot of the Alpine Coaster.
Photobucket
It is surprisingly long, and bodaciously fun.
We made it to the TOP!

The ride down was more fun than either one of us remember from last years trip out here with my mom. The guy at the top said that it was perfect conditions for a fast ride.
Once we were down we ran right over to the coaster.
Photobucket
I was a little nervous.
Photobucket
Post-coaster reactions:
Photobucket
BLISS!
After all of that excitement it was obviously time for a little fiesta! Yes, that is right, we had earned some mexican food.
Photobucket
We read a review on this place the night before, and just stumbled upon it as we walked around the resort. The food was excellent, and it was really great to eat mexican again.
We headed over to the outlets. It was at this point in the story I started to feel a bit ill. We trudged on, however, having time to find these pre-poped collars for kids at the Ralph Lauren outlet. Yikes.
Photobucket
At this point in the trip we were kind of stuck. We were both really tired from shopping, and kind of ready to go home. Also, the Carbuffet was wearing on us. We still had a bunch of things planned. After a short detour, we pressed on!
We decided to go to Pickeleville Playhouse in Bear Lake a day early! So we headed north, ending up in SLC on accident near U of U. We remembered being told about this amazing pizza place near there and decided that we wanted to try it out:

We ordered and seated ourselves. It was a little hole-in-the-wall place, and may be able to boast the most greasy pizza on the planet, but yes it was really good. And yes, we finished it all. No, it was not shame eating, it was celebrating our independence…day, from tyranny. Shut up.
Photobucket
Still looking cute though, huh?
After a three hour drive, that included an hour of terrible mountain roads, we were there!
Photobucket
The show was Crazy For You. It was cute, and pretty funny. It was just one of those things that we wanted to do before we left Utah. It was a really good time. During intermission we sped down to the Quick and Tasty for one of Bear Lake’s famous raspberry shakes! So worth it.
Photobucket
We called ahead and asked if we could come and stay at the Hicken’s house in Logan for the night. They awesomely said yes!
We were up early, ready for more fun. If you have visited the Hickens in Logan you know that fun is always plentiful there! We got up and were immediately recruited for some harvesting!
Photobucket
First the plum tree, then…everything else.
There were two buckets full of green beans, tomatoes, and squash too.
Photobucket
While looking at the spinach patch, I saw a cute little brown gofer thing that darted away as soon as it saw me. My first reaction was, “Oh, look at the little cutie!” Which I said out loud, of course. Uncle Greg cried from the other side of the garden, “What, where is he?!” He was instantly at my side.
I found out what my reaction should have been was, “Oh no! A Vole. I must kill it!”
Oops. He really was so cute.
Dustin was out with a solution in minutes.
Photobucket
Next, our wonderful Auntie Shirlene taught us how to make, from scratch, whole wheat bread. We ground the wheat and everything! It was super fun. I am really excited to get started.
Photobucket
The above is her cinnamon currant loaf. If was like candy. SO stinking good!
Here are the plain wheat loaves. Again, thank you so much for taking the time to teach me, they were so tasty!
Photobucket
While the bread was baking we all made a mad dash over to Gosners Dairy to buy some squeaky cheese. We came back to the house, chatted with Nicole, tried out some bikes, and basically just messed around. Melanie, Talon, his brother Garen were there too. Later that evening we headed over to a little Indian place called the Tandoori Oven for dinner. It was uncle Greg’s birthday! His Brother Matt was in town with his wife and son. They went out with us too.
The lovely Nicole and Aunt Shirlene.
Photobucket
Uncle Greg ordered for all of us, and it was so good. We tried several things that we hadn’t had before.
Photobucket
We decided to stay the night. Melanie and I stayed up looking at clothes online and basically pretend buying all the things we wished we could actually get. It was so much fun. Mel, you rock. You will get that fur wolf hat some day, I can feel it!
Everyone started turning in, and so did we. We were getting really tired by that point.
The next morning we got up, said good bye to everyone while they left for church and drove home. We made it just in time for Church, which is now at 1pm.
That evening we drove up to Squaw Peak with Zac, Krysta and Karen.
Photobucket
It was a great way to end the weekend.
Photobucket
You know, taking in something beautiful, but still familiar with our little family here.
Photobucket
We brought Salad and leftovers to eat.
Photobucket
We chatted, and reconnected after what seemed like a very long separation.
All in all, it was our best anniversary yet.

  1. Super jealous that you got to help out with the harvesting and hanging out with my family. Wish we were there. We would have made it even better. 🙂

    Congrats on 4 years!

  2. I heart this post. Congrats on an awesome 4 years! Nick and I miss your faces, and wish we could see you all the times (so Karl, get a job in So Cal already!!!!)

Also, was this for me? "There are scenic rides you can take too, if you are too chicken for the slides…" Those things are terrifying!

  3. Allison and Karl. While your weekend seemed pretty awesome, the coolest thing I saw on your blog was Allie's beard shirt. Too cool 4 skool! We love you guys so much and miss you even more!
